AZUSA AUCTION UPDATE – Auction #11 was held at our Clifton Park Office on Sat. June 6th, 2021
The actual auction was well-attended by a group of active bidders. Many bids had been placed in advance by those that were unable to attend the actual auction in person. When the bidding was over, this auction set a new record for gross sales and thus was our most successful one to date. Thanks to all who participated as either buyers or sellers, or both. Thanks also to our outstanding auction staff – Gail, Lou, Maris, Jerry, & Dave.
PHILATELY IN THE CAPITAL DISTRICT DURING THE PANDEMIC & DURING THE RECOVERY
During the pandemic, many collectors did not get out much to acquire new material. It appears that many used the extra time at home to better sort and organize their collections.
Azusa was closed for about two and a half months, and quietly reopened on a limited basis by appointment only. This actually worked out surprisingly well – our customers were very loyal and active, and this year is turning out to be one of the most successful ones yet (I’m not sure I can say why…). We also bought fewer but higher quality collections, so there was always new material to look at. We also noticed increased wholesale and large purchases activity. Our sales at the Coxsackie Antique Center also greatly increased as the pandemic eased.
